RUTH  PAULINE  (FOWLER)  DRAKE

Beloved Ruth Pauline (Fowler) Drake, age 99, formerly of 325 Penn St., Bloomsburg, died at 10:55 p. m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Providence Place Assisted Living, Drums, under the care of Allcare Hospice of Hazleton. She resided there for the past three years.
Born in Berwick on June 14, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Myron and Celia A. (Boyer) Fowler.
Ruth graduated from Berwick High School in 1931 and also from the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College where she received a degree in elementary education.
Early in her life she was employed by the former Berwick Refrigerator Store, Montgomery Ward Store, Berwick and also taught in the Berwick School system. Later she was involved with the family rental business
Ruth was a member of the former Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, now Good Shepherd Lutheran, Berwick for over 50 years. She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert M. Drake, on February 5, 2002; by a brother, Frank B. Fowler, Berwick, and a sister, Kathryn (Fowler) Kindig, Bloomsburg. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Carol, wife of Michael A. Benza, Tamaqua (Hometown); four grandchildren: Major Michael A. Benz, Jr., USAF, and his wife Lisa M., Highland Mills, N.Y.; Tiffica A. Benza, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Jeremy R. Benza, and his wife Katie DeLuca Benza, Warrington; Captain Matthew S. Drake Benza,  USAF, Charleston, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren: Lily and Macy Benza, Highland Mills, N.Y. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews including her beloved niece Sherri Brandt, Danville.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11 a. m. in Creveling Cemetery, Almedia, with the Rev. David Bateman, interim rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg, officiating. There will be no viewing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
