Ruth E. (Bower) Snyder, age 95, of Schoolhouse Road, Bloomsburg (Buckhorn), died peacefully on Friday August 16, 2024 at the Heritage Springs Memory Care Center in Muncy.
Born in Liberty Township, Montour County, on September 20, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Hazel (Mordan) Bower. She resided in Buckhorn for 70 years and was a 1946 graduate of Danville High School.
Ruth was employed for many years at the former S&H Green Stamp Store in Bloomsburg.
She was a member of the Buckhorn United Methodist Church, where she was very active as the church organist and pianist, the organist and pianist for the children’s choir, and as the janitor.
She was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years and she was honored by them when they presented the Ray J. Calabrese Award to her. She also worked at the Hemlock Township polls for many years. She was a member of the Tah Gah Jute Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution in Danville.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, was her first husband Dale Appleman, on September 1958 and her second husband, Gene M. Snyder, on September 24, 2019.
Surviving are a son, Scott B. Appleman, and his wife Arla, of Hughesville; two daughters, Patricia A. Snyder, of Buckhorn, and Lisa, wife of James Mattive, of Bloomsburg; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 28, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her grandson-in-law, Pastor Kenny Scoggins, pastor of the Boiling Springs Baptist Church in Fletcher, North Carolina, officiating. Interment will follow in Columbia Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 12-2 p.m.
