Ruth T. Keeler, age 83, formerly of Clearview Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 7:38 p. m. Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the Valley View Nursing Home, Montoursville, where she had been a guest since April 30, 2015.
Born in Bloomsburg on November 12, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie (Shoemaker) Thomas. She returned to Bloomsburg in 2007 after having resided in Newport from 1989 to 2007.
Ruth attended the former Ben Franklin Elementary School on the campus of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College and went on to graduate from Bloomsburg High School in 1949. Following high school, she enrolled at the Bloomsburg State Teachers College, graduating in 1953. She later did graduate work at Boston University and received a scholarship from Northwestern University for graduate work.
She taught mathematics and science at Millville High School from 1953 to 1970. In 1986 she began employment with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, Harrisburg, as an auditor, retiring in 1997.
Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg and Global Awareness International. She traveled extensively in many countries of the world as well as the 50 states in the United States.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Paul J. Thomas in 1992; Donald E. Thomas, Sr., on July 6, 2000; and Lester D. Thomas on June 26, 2009.
Surviving is her daughter, Rachel E. Keeler, Pittsburg; her companion, Ted Piotrowski, Williamsport; a niece, Rebecca, wife of Larry Brown, Danville; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial park, Lime Ridge. A viewing will be held from 1-2 p. m.
