Ruth M. (Oman) Kressler, age 88, 46 Morrison Road, Bloomsburg, died at 6:30 a. m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for five days. Her death followed a brief illness.
Born in Mount Pleasant Township on August 17, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Fred R. and Christine E. (Funk) Oman. She resided in the Bloomsburg area her entire life.
Ruth was a 1945 graduate of the Orangeville High School where she was valedictorian of her class.
A lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, she was active with the former Luther League group at the church and served as one of the leaders, when her children were young.
Ruth was a volunteer for the Columbia County Extension Service for many years and also was a benefactor of the Greenwood Friends School, Millville. She was an avid quilter and won many awards for her quilts; and was a member of several quilting groups.
She was actively involved with her children and grandchildren and their many activities. She served as the bookkeeper for the family business, Kresslerâs Service Station, on Millville Road, Bloomsburg. Ruth was an integral part of the success of the business, assisting her husband and sons in many other ways.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey R. Oman, on December 11, 1995.
Surviving are her husband, Jack S. Kressler, with whom she celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 22nd; five children: Fred W. Kressler, and his wife Iva, Bloomsburg; Cheryl V. âVickieâ, wife of Jeff Gaskill, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; Kathleen J., wife of Charles Hunsinger, Unityville; Patricia G., wife of Robert Brewster, Orangeville; Flint W. Kressler, and his wife Sharon, Millville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Gross, Lightstreet; and a brother, Gene E. Oman, and his wife Dora, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Interment will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Viewing will be Sunday from 6-8 p. m. and Monday from 10-11 a. m. at the funeral home.
