RUTH G. TAYLOR
Ruth G. Taylor, age 102, formerly of West 11th Street, Bloomsburg, died at 10:15 p. m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Nottingham Village Retirement Center, Northumberland where she resided for eight years. She was ill for four days.
Born in Greenwood Township on July 29, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Grace (McMichael) Gillaspy. She resided in Benton for many years before moving to Bloomsburg in 1960. She was a 1926 graduate of Benton High School.
Ruth was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg until moving to Nottingham Village. She was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class for many years.
Other memberships were in the Bloomsburg Ivy Club, a charter member of the Columbia Montour Chapter AARP, and she was the last charter member of the Benton Sewing Club. She was a former member of the PEO Chapter AV.
At Nottingham, she remained active and was an avid bridge player as well as assembling jig saw puzzles and participating in other activities.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, T. Carl Taylor on February 24, 1978, by a son, Rev. C. Richard Taylor on November 24, 2006; and by a sister, Mary Shaler on January 3, 1996.
Surviving are three children: Elaine T., wife of Thomas R. Hartman, Bloomsburg; Larry G. Taylor, and his wife Betty, Louisville, Kentucky; Mary Ruth, wife of David S. Campbell, Sunbury; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p. m. in Wesley United Methodist Church, W. Third & Market Streets, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Jay E. Jones officiating. Interment in Rohrsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Church on Tuesday from 1-2 p. m. Please use the entrance at 130 W. Third Street.
