Sally S. Brewington, age 86, 137 Third St., Benton, died at 6:43 p. m. Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for four days. She was in failing health for two months.
Born on January 22, 1930 in Charlottesville, Virginia, she was daughter of the late Richard T., Sr. and Mary Catherine (Gocke) Sanner. A 1947 graduate of Hyattsville Maryland High School, she attended the University of Maryland for two years and later attended Bloomsburg University where she earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees.
Sally resided in Benton since 1984 and previously lived in Stillwater for 21 years and at Jonestown for eight years prior to that.
She was employed by the Benton Area School District for 22 years as an elementary teacher, retiring in 1990.
Sally was a faithful member of Christ The King Catholic Church, where she served a eucharistic minister. She was a member of the Benton Women's Club since 1954 and also a member of the Benton Bridge Club; Benton Sewing Club and the Friendship Book Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert M. Brewington, Sr., on March 4, 1995; by a brother Richard T. Sanner, Jr., in 1995; and a son-in-law, John Tucker.
Sally is survived by two sons: Robert M. Brewington, Jr., and his wife Deborah, Benton and Richard R. Brewington, and his wife Patty, Orangeville; six daughters: Sharon B., wife of O. Grant Little, Benton; Sally B. Tucker, Bloomsburg; Sandra B., wife of Richard J. Slavick, Berwick; Sheila B., wife of Kirk A. Gilbert, Bloomsburg; Stephanie B., wife of W. Terry Stewart, Bloomsburg; Susanne B., wife of Jeffrey Sparrow, Douglassville; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Catherine "Kitty", wife of E. Robert Genthe, Mesa, Ariz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a. m. in Christ The King Catholic Church, Mendenhall Lane, Benton, by her pastor, Rev. David M. Hereshko. Interment will follow in the Stillwater Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton.
