SAMUEL L. DAVIES
Samuel L. Davies, age 70, 2700 Lackawanna Ave., Bloomsburg, died at 6:18 p. m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was admitted early Monday.
Born on November 15, 1939 in Fawn Township, York County, he was a son of the late Rev. Dr. G. Douglas and Margaret H. (Llewellyn) Davies.
Sam was a 1957 graduate of Trenton Central High School, Trenton, N.J. and received his B. A. degree from Drew University, Madison, N.J.
He resided in Bloomsburg since 2002, Danville from 1995 to 2002; Bloomsburg from 1988 to 1995 and Kingston, N.Y. from 1986 to 1988.
Sam was last employed as a Social Welfare Examiner in Kingston, N.Y. and earlier had been a bus driver from 1964 to 1978.
He was a member of the Prospect Street Presbyterian Church, Trenton, N.J. and a social member of the American Legion Post 40, Danville.
Sam served with the U. S. Navy from 1959 to 1963.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Jeffrey S. Davies in 2003.
Surviving are three grandchildren: Jennifer O'Lone, Alyssa O'Lone and Kylie O'Lone, all of Chadds Ford; a brother, Douglas M. Davies, Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Nancy D., wife of Ronald Hathen, Ambler; and his companion and caregiver, Adele Steinruck.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Barbara Rutt, Chaplain of the Lehigh Valley Health Network, Allentown, officiating. Private interment in Cedar Crest Cemetery, Trucksville.
Friends may call on Friday from 1-2 p. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the Organ Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 4 South Ridge Ave., Ambler, PA 19002.
