Shirley M. Ackley

Shirley M. (Bankes) Ackley, age 78, of Railroad St., Bloomsburg, died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday June 1, 2023 at the Glenbrook Rehab & Nursing Center in Berwick, where she was a patient.

Born in Bloomsburg on November 11, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Hontz) Bankes. She was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1962 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

Shirley was employed by the Catawissa VFW Post for 30 years as club manager and bartender.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond C. Cook, on February 22, 1996, and Wilbur B. Ackley, on December 23, 2014.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Tracy, wife of Scott Schroades, of Inwood, West Virginia, and Taryn Frey, of Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Kacy Nielsen, Nathan Trexler, Kyle Frey, and Kouy Frey; three great-grandchildren: Iris Nielsen, Karl Nielsen, and Thomas Nielsen; four siblings: Donna Yutko, Spike Bankes, and his wife Donna, Patricia, wife of Albert Bellum, David Bankes, and his wife Donna, all of Bloomsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 5, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. John A. Mohan, officiating. Interment will be made in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewing from 10-11 a.m.
