Shirley H. Bankes
Shirley H. Bankes, age 80, 207 Franklin Street, Bloomsburg, died at 4:10 p. m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital where she was admitted Wednesday. She had been in failing health for several years.
Born in Bloomsburg on December 23, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Zender and Florine (DeWalt) Winn. She resided in the Bloomsburg - Mainville area most of her lifetime and was a 1951 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Shirley was employed at the Mifflinville Rangers Fire Co. as a bartender last working about 1988. Earlier she was employed by the former Bloomsburg Mills, Inc. for several years.
She loved to read, play cards, do cross word puzzles and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. "Duke" Bankes, Sr.on January 27, 1990.
Surviving are two daughters: Deborah M. Miknich and Dixie F., wife of Daniel L. Bowes, all of Bloomsburg; a son, Daniel J. Bankes, Jr., and his wife Ann, Berwick; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Thomas, Bloomsburg; and a brother, Doyle Winn, and his wife Jean, Milton.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Allen F. Acor, pastor of the Hendrickson-Mooresburg United Methodist Churches officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1-2 p. m.
