Shirley M. Gehling, age 82, formerly of 937 E. Fifth St., Berwick, died at 4:25 a. m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater, where she was a patient since February, 2014.

Born in Union Township, Luzerne County, on December 3, 1932,  she was a daughter of the late William B. and Jennie (Brown) Hess. She resided in Bloomsburg from 1973 to 1998 when she moved to Berwick.  She was a homemaker and  devoted to her family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband William F. Gehling, on November 13, 1994; by a daughter, Donna M. Gehling on January 27, 1964; by three brothers: William Hess; Robert Hess and Archie Hess; and by two sisters: Thelma McMichael and Dorothy Saxe.

Surviving are five children: Jerry A. Gehling, and his wife Ella, Statesville, North Carolina; Sharon D., wife of Frank L. Rubenstein; Bloomsburg; Linda J. Hoy, Williamsport; M/Sgt. William F. Gehling, Jr., USAF, ret. and his wife Emerita, Harrisburg, North Carolina; Kathy J., wife of Paul Talmadge, Orlando, Fla.; her loving friend of many years, Roland Harter, Berwick; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchiildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, George Hess, Bloomsburg; and four sisters: Helen Stempien and Jennie Titus, both of Shickshinny; Blanche Bogart, Orangeville;  Laura Breeding, Elkin, Maryland, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Pastor Paul Mosely, Sr., of the Benton Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.  Viewing will be from 12:30 to 2 p. m.
