Shirley A. George
Shirley A. George, age 78, formerly of Franklin Place, Bloomsburg, died at 11:40 p. m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013, the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where she resided for five years.
Born in Bloomsburg on March 10, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Mary (Long) Dawson. She resided at Franklin Place for a number of years before entering the nursing home and previously at Stoney Brook Circle for about 15 years and in Hemlock Township for 20 years before that.
Shirley was last employed by the Inn At Turkey Hill for three and one half years, retiring in 1998. Earlier she was employed by the Danville Manufacturing Co., for four years and at the former US Radium plant in Almedia before that.
She developed an extended family where she resided the past five years and loved each and every one of them. She loved to go shopping and eating out with her friend Nancy Lowe. She also loved to read and do word search puzzles.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. "Snuffy" George on November 4, 1999; by a son, Larry Ray George in 2003; and by a brother, Gary Ray Dawson in 1998.
Shirley is survived by two sons: Bernard R. George, and his wife Linda, Bloomsburg and James R. George, and his wife Sharon, Milton; a daughter, Linda S., wife of Thomas Phillips, Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Virgie Rosbach, Fredericksburg, Va. and Beryl, wife of Jerry Frey, Bloomsburg.
