Shirley J. Lockard Fulmer, age 87, 640 Waller Road, Benton, died at 8:30 a. m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017,  at The Gardens At Orangeville, where she resided since August 1, 2016.

Born on July 30, 1930 at Grassmere Park in  Sugarloaf Township, she was a daughter of H. Stanley and B. Ione ( Golder) Hess.  She resided in Waller since 1949

Shirley graduated from the former Sugarloaf School in 1946 and from Benton High School in 1948. She then  attended the Empire Beauty School, graduating in 1949.

She was employed as a professional packer for Gray’s Moving and Storage, Lightstreet, for 43 years. She also worked at the former Dockey’s Shirt Factory, Benton for two years. She enjoyed working at the  taffy stand at the Bloomsburg Fair for 30 years. Following the death of her second husband,  Edward Fulmer, she became the owner of Fulmer’s Body Shop & Towing.

Shirley was an active member of the Waller United Methodist Church, serving on the administrative  board, communion steward, missions group, teacher and as secretary of the United Methodist Women. She also represented the Waller Church on the Council of Churches.

She was secretary treasurer and food coordinator for the Waller Memorial Hall Association since 1977.  Some of her other activities included serving as a den mother for the Cub Scouts; 4-H leader;  Blood Mobile and Benton Food Bank.

Shirley was the address secretary for the Sugarloaf Alumni Association since 1983. She also was a member of the Sugarloaf Happy Group and the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by two husbands: Harry E. Lockard on March 20, 1970 and Edward D. Fulmer on April 29, 1993; a brother Budd D. Hess; a sister June Sones; and a great granddaughter, Eliese Faith English on November 10, 2001.

Surviving are two sons: Barry E. Lockard, and his wife Jill and Robin E. Lockard, and his wife Vicki, all of Benton;  seven grandchildren: Stephanie (Courtnee) Williams; Shelby (George) Holdren; Corey Lockard; Justin Lockard; Amanda, wife of Kenneth Schetroma; Alyssa Lockard; Allison Lockard;  ten great grandchildren: Katarina Belles, Kylie Bogert; Chloe Williams; Rodney Albertson, Chelsea Gregory; Jaden Gregory; Isaac Holdren; Ethan Lockard; Emily Lockard; and  Elaina Lockard.

Also surviving are four step children: Terry Fulmer, and his wife Ruth; Nancy, wife of Clarence  McHenry; Gay, wife of Ray Worthington; Tom Fulmer, and his wife Lachell; 6 step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren;  two sisters: Bette Gray, Orangeville and Kathleen “Kay” Mausteller, Rupert; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Private services open to all the Hess, Lockard and Fulmer families will be held in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with her pastor, Matthew Verstraeten officiating. Interment in Waller Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Relatives are asked to contact her sons for further information.
