Shirley J. Markle, age 77, 1909 Bloom Road, Danville, died at 9:25 p. m. Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where was a guest for four days. She had been seriously ill since May.
Born in Wellsville, N.Y. on June 30, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Alberta (Hower) Steffen. She resided in Danville for much of her life, except for eight years that she spent in Rochester, New York in her early life. She returned to Danville in 1966.
Shirley was a member of the Danville Moose Lodge. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and bowling.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ned H. Markle on December 7, 2009; by two brothers: Kenneth Steffen and Harold Steffen; and by three sisters: Virginia Neaus; Lois Weiss; and Eleanor Miller
Shirley is survived by two sons: N. Jeffrey Markle and Gregory J. Markle, both of Bloomsburg; two sisters: Doris Conner, Riverside; Irene Kern, Harrisburg; and a brother, Gerald Steffen, Wellsville, New York.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. Viewing will be on Friday from 6-8 p. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to Geisinger-Columbia Montour Hospice, 410 Glen Avenue, Bloomsburg, PA 17815
