Shirley G. Mensch, age 77, 87 Pepper Hills, Danville, died at 4 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at her home. She had been in failing health for three years.
Born in Franklin Twp., Columbia County on January 17, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Martha (Artley) Stine. She had resided at Pepper Hills for 34 years, and formerly lived in Mayberry Twp.
Shirley was employed by Walmart for five years as a receptionist and worked in the fitting room, last working in 2002. Previously she worked for the former Bloom Mills; Emenee Shirt Factory, Catawissa; and Roselon Yarns, Danville.
She was a member of Community Alliance Church, Mausdale. Shirley enjoyed crocheting baby blankets, and made lap robes for the guests at Emmanuel Nursing Center. She liked camping, blue grass shows, and loved her family and family reunions.
Surviving is her husband, Robert F. S. Mensch, with whom she would have celebrated 51 years of marriage on October 20, 2013; five children: Allen L. "Skip" Mensch, companion Kitty LaFlame, Philadelphia; Melody K., wife of Kevin Billig, Catawissa; Sherry L. Shoemaker, at home; Kenneth M. Mensch, wife Lynn, Berwick; Kandis M., wife of Doug Wilcox, Shickshinny; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four siblings: Carl Stine, wife Barbara, Benton; C. Wayne Stine, wife Elizabeth, Trenton, NJ; Ethel, wife of Martin Bloom; Faye Doebler, Danville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Charles Wilcox and three brothers: Earl Stine, Verdon Stine and Willard Stine.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with her pastor, Nathan King, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
