Stanley R. Lesnefsky, Jr., age 91, 850 Cherry St., Bloomsburg, went to be with his Lord at 7:20 a. m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital, where he was admitted Monday.
Born in Beaver Township, Columbia County, on September 12, 1924, he was a son of the late Stanley R. and Mary (Zapach) Lesnefsky. He resided in Beaver Township until moving to Bloomsburg in February, 1964, and was a graduate of the former Beaver Township Consolidated School.
Stanley was employed by the former American Car & Foundry, Co., Berwick, as a welder for 20 years. He then was employed by the former Whitaker, Corp., which became Berwick Forge & Fabricating Co. for 35 years as a welder and supervisor, retiring in May, 1995. He also was employed by Columbia Aircraft Services, Inc., at the Bloomsburg Airport for ten years.
He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg.
Stanley was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Carpentry and Cabinet Making school while working full time and became an expert woodworker.
He was the last surviving charter member of the Beaver Township Fire Co. , which was organized in 1936.
Stanley served with the US Army, from 1943 to 1946, during World War II. He served in the Philippines, on Okinawa and in Korea as a combat engineer. He received the Asiatic Pacific ribbon with four bronze battle stars; one bronze arrowhead; Philippine ribbon with two bronze stars; the American Campaign ribbon and medal; World War II Victory ribbon and medal; the Good Conduct ribbon and medal; and the expert rifle medal.
Stanley is best described by Galatians 5:22-23: "The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness".
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, the former Catherine A. Fisher, on June 15, 2000; by two brothers: Albert Lesnefsky and Paul Lesnefsky; by two sisters: Margaret Hartranft and Frances Schell; and by a son-in-law, Joseph J. Bolinsky, Jr., on January 4, 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, Marie E. Bolinsky, Bloomsburg; a grandson, Joseph J. Bolinsky, III, and his wife Tianna and a great-granddaughter, Braelyn Ann Bolinsky, all of Bloomsburg; two sisters: Arlene Lesnefsky and Gloria, wife of Allen Baylor, all of Bloomsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by his pastor, Msgr. Robert E. Lawrence. Interment will be made in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewing on Monday from 9 to 10 a. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
