Stephen J. Pursel, age 70, of 101 Division St., Bloomsburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born on April 7, 1951 in Berwick, he was the son of the late Dean J. and Pearl I. (Broadt) Pursel. Stephen attended Danville High School and graduated from Columbia-Montour Vocational Technical School.
Before retiring, he was employed as the Vice President in charge of Research and Development by Whaley Food Service in Lexington, SC and also by International Commercial Supply in Winstead, CT.
He attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Bloomsburg.
Stephen was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Pursel, in June 2021 and by a brother, Larry D. Pursel.
Surviving is his wife, the former Joyce L. Hirschbiel, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 20, 2021; two sons: Stephen T. Pursel, and his wife Anne Marie, of Berlin, NJ and Robert S. Pursel, and his wife Alicia, of Horsham; five grandchildren: Stephen T. Pursel, Jr., Dean Pursel, Ali Pursel-Kittle, Robert Mockewich, and Marco Sotelo; and six siblings: Elaine, wife of Charles Swank, David R. Pursel, Sharon, wife of Leroy Kitchen, Kevin Pursel, and his wife Cynthia, Karen Hetherington, all of Danville, and Alice Kessler, of Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 4 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Charles Swank, officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-4 p.m. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Danville.
