Sterling E. Aten
Sterling E. Aten, age 68, 168 Nursery Road, Berwick, went to be with his Lord at 5:54 p. m. Friday, April 17, 2015, while a patient at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was admitted earlier in the day.
Born in Bloomsburg on September 28, 1946, he was a son of the late Marshall C. and Helen (Yohey) Aten. He spent his entire life in the Bloomsburg-Berwick area and was a 1964 graduate of Central Columbia High School.
Sterling was employed at the former Lycoming Silica Sand Corp. quarry at Mausdale, Montour County for over 20 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Fowlersville United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent.
Sterling was one of the leaders of the 4-H Horse and Pony Club. He and his wife operated concessions at fairs and special events. They introduced the sale of ice tea at the fairs they were working.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles M. Aten.
Sterling and the former Judith A. Martz were married on August 6, 1965 and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. Also surviving are a son, Kenneth E. Aten, and his wife Marie, Berwick; a daughter, Kelly S., wife of Bill Warner, Milton, Del.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Davis, Berwick.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 11 a. m. in the Fowlersville United Methodist Church, 10 Golf Course Road, Berwick, with his pastor, Rev. R. Edward Cope officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Church from 10-11 a. m.
