Sun Sil Nyssen

Sun Sil Nyssen (née, Kim) joined her husband of 57 years, Bruce Nyssen, in eternal rest on January 23, 2025, following a long illness.

Sun Sil, or ‘Sun’, as she was widely known, was born in 1935 on the Korean peninsula but became a resident of Danville, PA in 1984. She was a strong woman with an indomitable spirit.

As a youth, she was a refugee of both World War II and the Korean Civil War, protecting and providing for her younger siblings in unimaginable circumstances. Following her marriage to Bruce in 1967, she was the quintessential military wife, travelling the world and raising her daughter. Kim was known for her relentless generosity, her bawdy sense of humor and her tenacious love for her family.

SSgt. Bruce A. Nyssen, Ret., USAF, born in 1942, passed away in April 2024 following his own long illness. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War; Bruce bravely served his country for twenty years while stationed throughout the US, Europe, and South Korea. In addition to his service,

Bruce was a gifted photographer, drummer, and car racing enthusiast. He is remembered by all who knew him for his gruff voice, his gentle heart, and his mischievous, wolfish grin. Their long love story having come to a close on this earthly plane, Bruce and Sun are survived by their beloved daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as their respective cherished siblings and extended families. The singular couple, with their warmth and humor will be missed by their loved ones and friends.
