THOMAS EDMUND ONOFRIO, JR.
Thomas Edmund Onofrio, Jr., age 47, 4025 1/2 Old Berwick Road., Bloomsburg, died Friday evening, December 9, 2011, at his father's home in South Centre Township and was pronounced dead at 9:05 p. m. His death ended a year long with throat cancer. He received care from Berwick Hospital Home Health Care and the full time care of his family.
Born on Feb. 25, 1964 in Canandaigua, New York, he was the son of Thomas E. Ononfrio, Sr., Bloomsburg and Valerie (Bradstreet) Wills and her husband, William, Glen White, West VA.
He was a 1983 graduate of Avoca High School, Avoca, New York and went on to serve his country as a member of the U. S. Air Force from 1984 to 1987, earning the rank of Airman First Class. In the military he was a jet engine mechanic.
Known as Tommy to his family, he was last employed by Specialty Roller & machine Co., Berwick.
Tommy was very active as a re-enactment soldier and traveled all over to particiapte. He acted as a Civil War Confederate and Union soldier. He made uniforms for the Civil War as well as German and Russian soldiers, all of museum quality. He enjoyed making the patterns for these uniforms as well as making the uniforms.. He donated all of his patterns, uniforms and equipment to a group he belonged to so that others might enjoy them. In doing so he will still be a part of the group and live on. He will be dressed in a Civil War uniform to go to his final resting place after fighting the worst battle of his life, cancer. The troop he belonged to will carry him to his resting place and remember him for what a soldier he was.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters: Cindy Lynn Onofrio, Scotland, Conn. and Diane Marie Graham, Statesboro, Ga.; two nephews : Phil Graham and Allen Thomas Goodrich, with whom he shared the same birthday; a niece, Leann Hodges; and his two pets: a dog named Harley and a turtle named Crunch.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Allen F. Acor, pastor of the Mooresburg-Hendrickson United Methodist Churches officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p. m.
