VERA G. RISHEL
Vera G. Rishel, age 86, 275 Point Township Drive, Northumberland, died at 7:15 p. m. Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Millville Health Care Center, Millville, where she was a guest since September 30, 2009. She was in failing health since suffering a stroke in early September.
Born on December 30, 1922 in Danville, she was thhe only child of the late Benjamin E. and Ruth Anna (Mordan) Grove.
Vera was a 1940 graduate of Danville High School and a 1945 graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg. She also studied at the University of London in England.
She was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Sunbury.
Vera was the organizing Regent of Danville Chapter, Tah Gah Jute, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in October, 1991. She also was a former PA State DAR officer.
She was last employed by the former WCNR Radio in Bloomsburg as a host/commentator and earlier was employed by the Merck Co., Cherokee plant in Riverside for 14 years.
Vera was a talented artist, frequently painting flowers and decorations on trays and vases which she gave away as gifts. She signed her Christmas cards and then would draw a sprig of holly or other decoration under her name. From her teenage years, she always owned a white Eskimo dog and took it everywhere with her. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader, especially western paperbacks. He favorite author was Luke Short.
On June 3, 1967 she married Robert N. Rishel of Danville and they hoeymooned in Europe. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1975.
Vera is survived by her friend and caregiver, Andrew Pruden, Bloomsburg and nine cousins: Thomas E. Bower, Arlington, Va.; Ruth E., wife of Gene Snyder, Buckhorn; James R. Stair, and his wife Patricia, Bloomsburg; Gary L. Stair, Wyalusing; William S. Freas, and his wife Marlene, Fenton, Mich.; Julia L. Stahl, Harrisburg; Janet M., wife of Michael Henrietta, Titusville, Fla.; Joyce A., wife of Gerald Marschke, Hendersonville, N.C. and Nancy M., wife of Albert Mayan, Summerfield, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with her pastor, Rev. Thomas J. Dunkle officiating. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. Danville Chapter Tah Gah Jute, DAR, will conduct memorial services at 10:30 a. m.
