Violet J. Zapach, age 79, 32 Fisher Run Road, Mainville, died at 10:14 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the home of her niece, Pam Nunamaker, 86 Laidacker Road, Milton. She had been in failing health since December 2013.
Born in Beaver Twp., Columbia County on June 13, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Mary E. (Hons) Bankes. She resided in the Mainville area her entire life.
Violet was employed for the former U.S. Radium Corp., Almedia for over 35 years, retiring in 1999. Earlier in life she had worked for the former Consolidated Cigar Co., Berwick.
She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Mainville.
Violet was an avid photographer, and loved to travel.
She was preceded in death by a son, John LaRue Bankes on January 29, 1993; three brothers: Daniel âDukeâ Bankes, Thomas âJoeâ Bankes and Ralph Bankes and by three sisters: Mary Slusser, Judy Bankes and Joanne Bankes.
Surviving is a son, George L. Hettler, Bloomsburg; a step-daughter, Linda Felegie, Bloomsburg; grandson, Chad Hettler, two great granddaughters: Eden Hettler and Mia Hettler, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and six siblings: Salome Slusser, Mifflinville; Shirley, wife of Wilbur Ackley; Donna Yutko; Robert âSpikeâ Bankes, wife Donna; Patricia, wife of Albert Bellum; and David Bankes, wife Donna, all of Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with J. Michael Delp, youth pastor of Stillwater Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Hargerâs Cemetery, Beaver Twp. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.
