Virginia L. âGinnyâ Schmidt, age 69, 388-B Country Lane West, Orangeville (Stoney Brook Circle), died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in West Point, NY on November 12, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Marjorie (Keys) VanNess.
She was a graduate of Owego Free Academy, NY and went on to receive a degree in Hotel/Motel Management from Tompkins Cortland Community College, Dryden, NY.
Ginny was employed as an insurance adjustor for Liberty Mutual Insurance, Binghamton, NY for many years, retiring in 1996.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Berwick. She had a good voice, and enjoyed singing with the Nature Coast Singers in Florida, and also with the Danville Community Chorus. Ginny also enjoyed golfing at Cherokee Golf Course, Riverside; and played in a couples league with her husband Frank in the summer in Florida. Earlier in life she liked to cross country ski with Frank.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Schmidt, with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 15, 2013; two daughters: Brenda, wife of Shaun Recla, Danville and Kira, wife of William âBillâ Reimels, Maple Shade, NJ; five grandchildren: Corey, Jordan, Darian, Brady and Autumn; and brother, Col. James VanNess, wife Andrea, Peru, NY.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, the Rev. Mother Mary E. Kisner officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1-2 p.m.
