Vivian S. Hess

Vivian S. Hess, age 94, formerly of Stillwater and Benton, died at 11:05 p. m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where she resided for almost five years.

Born on August 13, 1915 in Benton, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Dora R. (Cole) Shultz. She attended the Benton High School.

Vivian was a member for many years of the former Hamline United Methodist Church.

Vivian was a sales representative for the Avon Company for 50 years, retiring in 2005. Early in her life she was employed by the former M. D. Byers Grocery Store, Berwick.

Surviving are three children: Carl E. Sponenberg, Danville; Ruth Ann, wife of Carl G. Bower, Berwick; Samuel Sponenberg, and his wife Rosalie, Somerville, N.J.; 10 grandchildren;  and 19 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Vivian was the last of a family of 11 children.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with the Rev. Howard W. Leh, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, Central, officiating. Interment in Benton Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 10 to 11 a. m.
