WAYNE  M. WELLIVER

Wayne M. Welliver, age 81, formerly of 227 E. Sixth St., Bloomsburg, died at 11:05 a. m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where he was a patient since April, 2010. He was in failing health for several years.

Born in Bloomsburg on May 9, 1929, he was a son of the late John and Flora (Shultz) Welliver.

Wayne was a 1947 graduate of Bloomsburg High School where he played on the 1946-47 championship football team.

He was employed as a letter carrier working out of the Bloomsburg Post Office and later was a rural carrier, working for the Postal Service for 39 1/2 years.

Wayne was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg and a life member of the Bloomsburg Fire Department.  Wayne was a life member of Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436, serving as a Past Exalted Ruler of the lodge and also as a District Deputy.

He and his wife Joan were avid Penn State Football fans  and also of  the Bloomsburg University Huskies.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, the former Joan Shaffer on May 23, 2010 and by a brother, Jack W. Welliver, Sr.

Surviving are his daughter, Deborah J., wife of Harry Fruit, Bloomsburg; two granddaughters: Julie Klesh and Cathie Fruit, both of Bloomsburg; six great-grandchildren: Bret Bowman, Karlie Bowman, Devin Stout, Derek Morrison, Dylan Morrison and Kallie Miller; and a sister, Verda, wife of James L. Walters, Bloomsburg.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Charles W. Dyer, his friend and chaplain in area nursing homes officiating. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-2 p. m. with Elks Memorial services at 1 p. m.

The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the Columbia-Montour Home Hospice program, 410 Glenn Ave., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
