Wendelin R. âWendyâ Frantz, age 84, of Bloomsburg, died at 7:40 a. m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Columbia Montour Hospice At Maria Hall, Danville, where he was a guest for 12 days. He was in failing health for the past six months.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 28, 1929, he was a son of the late Wendelin C. and Myrtle L. (Baldi) Frantz.. He resided in Bloomsburg since 1968.
Wendy was a 1947 graduate of John Marshall High School, Cleveland, Ohio. He received his B.S. degree from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio and his M. S. degree and Ph.D.. from the University of Pittsburgh .
He was a professor at Bloomsburg University from 1968 until retiring in 1992 and had served as chairman of the Geography and Earth Sciences Department for many years.
Wendy was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, where he served on the Church council and as an usher. He enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting, fishing and spending time at his cottage in Canada.
He also enjoyed watching sports and was a baseball player while enrolled in college. Wendy was always very friendly and outgoing, as well as being witty. He cherished the time spent with his family.
Wendy served with the US Army during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margret E. Dreibelbis, with whom he celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary on February 22, 2014; three children: Scott H. Frantz, and his wife Debra, Cleveland, Ohio; twins: Christopher W. Frantz, and his wife Julie, Downingtown and Suzanne E., wife of Erik Frigon, Pownal, Me.; four grandchildren: Peter, Curtis, Leah and Jared Frantz; a brother, Edward Frantz, and his wife Barbara , Cincinnati, Ohio; and a sister, Miriam Hadlock, Pompano Beach, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-5 p. m.

Additional services will be held in Medina, Ohio on Wednesday, followed by interment in Granger Fairview Cemetery, Medina, Ohio.
