Wilbur B. Ackley, age 71, 857 Railroad Street, Bloomsburg, died unexpectedly at his home early Tuesday, December 23, 2014 and was pronounced dead at 9:45 a. m.
Born in Riverside on May 26, 1943, he was a son of the late William and Vivian (Lenhart) Ackley. A graduate of Danville High School, he resided in Danville until moving to Bloomsburg in 1990.
Wilbur was employed at the former TRW Valve Division plant in Danville for 37 years, retiring about 2000.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg.
Wilbur served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Following his active duty service, he was a member of the PA National Guard for 25 years. He was a member of the Catawissa American Legion Post for over 25 years and a life member of the Fort McClure Post 804, VFW, Bloomsburg.
Wilbur will be remembered for his keen, but not always understood sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas Ackley and Herbert Ackley.
Surviving are his wife, the former Shirley M. Bankes, with he whom he observed 24 years of marriage on February 17, 2014; a daughter, Traci, wife of Marc Surette, LasVegas, Nev.; two step daughters: Tracy, wife of Scott Shroades, Winchester, Va. And Taryn Frey, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren: Kacy Neilson, Nathan Trexler, Kyle Frey, Kouy Frey, Sam Surette, Jack Surette; a great-granddaughter, Iris Mae Neilson; and a sister, Delores Wesner. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Luke Lutheran Church, St. Luke Way, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Peter M. Horn officiating.
Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donorâs choice.
