William C. Bredbenner, III

William C. Bredbenner, III, age 78, 1451 Broadway Road, Milton, and formerly of Riverside, died at 8:30 p. m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at his home after being in failing health since April, 2009.

Born in Berwick on May 8, 1931, he was a son of the late William C., Jr. and Ruth E. (Stahl) Bredbenner.

Bill graduated from Watsontown High School in 1949 and resided in Riverside from 1954 until recently when he moved to Milton. He was employed as a psychiatric aide at Danville State Hospital for 35 years retiring in 1986.

An active member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Riverside, he sang in the choir, took part in Bible study and was involved with many other Church activities.

Bill enjoyed camping, playing bingo, old western movies, card games and watching games shows on television. As a young man, he played with the former Milton Drum and Bugle Corps.

He served with the Milton unit of the PA National Guard before enlisting in the US Air Force where he served for three years during the Korean War. Following his active duty, he served in the Air Force Reserves for 22 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Ellen J. Romig, on September 21, 1995 and by his three children: William C. Bredbenner, IV, on April 9, 1994; Polly M. Bredbenner on October 13, 2002; and Gary L. Bredbenner on July 21, 2009.

On October 12, 2009, Bill was married to the former Shirley A. (Miller) Haas Bredbenner in Las Vegas and he was residing with her in Milton. Also surviving are a step-daughter, Angela Shively, Winfield; a step-son Joseph Haas, Milton; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a half brother, Jeffrey Ellis, Watsontown.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 240 Sunbury Road, Riverside, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville with military honors.. Friends may call at the Church on Monday from 10-11 a. m.
