WILLIAM G. CAREY
William G. Carey, age 69, 7335 Columbia Blvd., Bloomsburg, died at 10:36 p. m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for two days. He was in failing health for six months.
Born in Berwick on May 9, 1942, he was a son of the late George W. and Eleanor (Greenly) Carey. He resided in the Berwick area much of his life and attended the Berwick Schools.
He was employed by the Wise Foods, Inc., for 33 years before retiring. He also owned Christie's Inn, LaSalle Street, Berwick during the early 1990's.
Bill attended the Community Alliance Church, Lightstreet. He enjoyed restoring automobiles and NASCAR racing. Bill also was a gourmet cook and loved cooking for his friends and family.
He served with the US Army in Germany with the Second Reconnaissance Squadron of the 7th Cavalry patrolling the border between East and West Germany in the early 1960's.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lorraine L. Learn; two daughters: Michele L., wife of Daniel P. Groshek, Orangeville and Christie A., wife of Scott D. Hook, Berwick; a step-son, Clint A. Beach, and his wife Michele, Berwick; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister Pamela, wife of Jack R. Bower, Catawissa; and two nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, with Rev. Larry H. Kresicher, pastor of the Beach Haven United Methodist charge officiating. There will be no calling hours.
