William D. "Bill" Doty

William D. “Bill” Doty, age 65, of Madrid Ave., Bloomsburg (Espy), died peacefully at his home on Sunday morning June 18, 2023 while under the care of Compassus Hospice after a brief illness.

Born in Bloomsburg on February 7, 1958, he was the son of the late George A., Jr. and Shirley C. (Long) Doty. He was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1976 graduate of the Columbia Montour Vocational Technical school.

Bill was employed by the Scott Township maintenance department since 2005 and was made a foreman one year ago. Prior to that he was employed as a mechanic by Wise Foods Inc. in Berwick for 18 years.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Espy.

Bill was an active member of the Espy Fire Co. since the age of 16. He formerly served as Chief Engineer for over 30 years and also as Trustee and Bingo Chairman for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Doty, on April 8, 2007.

Bill is survived by several cousins and a sister-in-law, Bette Jo Doty, of Espy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Gordon E. Smith, officiating. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9-11 a.m.
