William C. Evans, age 87, of Town Hill and formerly of New Columbus died Sunday evening, June 11, 2023, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville shortly after being admitted.
Born in Bloomsburg on December 27, 1935, he was a son of the late Clark B. and Reba (DeWitt) Evans. He spent most of his life in the New Columbus area and for the past five years he lived in Town Hill with his daughter, Jennifer. He was a 1953 graduate of the former Huntington Mills High School.
Bill was employed by Wise Products Co., Berwick for 43 years, retiring in 2002.
He was a member of the St. James United Church of Christ, Bendertown. He also was a member of the New Columbus Academy Memorial Hall Association. A former mayor of New Columbus, he also served on the boro council for eight years.
Bill proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, the former Ardis M. Shultz, on November 24, 2015.
Surviving are three sons: James A. Evans and his wife Misako of New Columbus, Gerald W. Evans of Stillwater, Jonathan L. Evans and his wife Patricia L. of Cambra; a daughter Jennifer M., wife of Ted Naugle of Town Hill, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 9:30 a. m. in St. James Cemetery, Bendertown, with his pastor, Rev. Mark E. Rowell officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the combined American Legion/Veterans of Foreign Wars group.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
