William B. "Bill" Lunger
William B. "Bill" Lunger, age 71, 177 Dahl Road, Bloomsburg, passed into the spirit world at 4:10 a. m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where was a patient for one week. Previously he was a resident of the Grandview Health Homes, Danville, for five years.
Born in Bloomsburg on November 24, 1941, he was a son of the late Foster and Leona (Derr) Lunger.
Bill was a 1962 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and recently enjoyed visits from some of his classmates at the nursing home. Following high school he served in the U. S. Army reserves for six years.
Early in his life he was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co. as a welder; by Girton Manufacturing, Millville, as a layout man, building stainless steel milk tanks; and lastly he will be remembered as a self employed electrician for 20 years, doing both commercial and residential wiring until retiring in 2007.
Bill was an avid fly fisherman, building his own rods and making his own lures. He also enjoyed playing his Martin guitar and writing songs, with one of his favorites being entitled "Sail Me".
He was preceded in death by his two brothers: Gary Lunger and Richard Lunger.
Surviving is his wife, the former Ruth A. Oberdorf, with whom he celebrated his 47th wedding anniversary on August 28, 2012; a son, Mason W. Lunger, and his wife Michelle, Bloomsburg; two grandsons: Jackson William Lunger and Clayton Clement Lunger, Bloomsburg; two step-grandsons: Collin Benintende, Milton and Logan Benintende, Bloomsburg; two sisters: Joyce Bond, Bloomsburg and Georgia Crossley, Lightstreet; two sisters-in-law: Marilyn Lunger and Susan Lunger; a niece, Kelly Crossley; seven nephews: Keith Crossley, Matt Bond, Mike Bond, Jeff Bond, Steve Lunger, David Lunger and Gary Lunger..
Bill will be greatly missed by all of his family members and many friends. He was known for his generosity and hard work ethic.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for all the excellant care he received while a resident of Grandview and also to his many caregivers at the Geisinger Medical Center.
A memorial service in celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 12 noon, at the Buckhorn United Methodist Church, Schoolhouse Road, Bloomsburg (Buckhorn) with his pastor, Audrey M. Brosious and Rev. Charles N Chamberlain, III, pastor of Bloomsburg Southern Baptist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Geisinger Dialysis Unit, c/o Geisinger Medical Center, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822.
