WILLIAM H. STANZIALE
William H. Stanziale, age 87, 445 Hillside Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 9:25 p. m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the emergency room of the Bloomsburg Hospital after taking ill at his home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on July 17, 1924, he was a son of the late Henry C. and Louise (Cook) Stanziale. He was a 1942 graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Bill resided in Bloomsburg since June, 2007 and previously lived in Wilmington, Del. for 55 years.
He was employed by the Gannett Newspaper Corp at the Wilmington News Journal in the circulation department for 17 years, retiring in Aug., 1986. Earlier he was employed by Green Hill Dairies, Wilmington, for 20 years.
Bill was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg.
He was a member of the Wilmington Lions Club for 25 years. He also coached baseball at Brandywine High School; Delaware Military Academy and the Claymont and Naamans Little League teams. He was honored by being elected to the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame.
Bill served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations with the rank of Corporal. He took part in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns earning three bronze stars.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Oreste P. Stanziale.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lois C. Frank, with whom he would have celebrated 64 years oif marriage on May 20th.; a daughter, Karen, wife of Larry Maurer, with whom he resided; a son Michael W. Stanziale, Bloomsburg; five grandchildren: Jody, wife of Robert Kempski; Jacob Maurer, and his wife Erica; Anthony Stanziale; Christopher Stanziale; Nicholas Stanziale; and three great-grandchildren: Rachel Kempski, Brady Kempski and Chase Maurer.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9 St. Luke's Way, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Jeffrey G. Bohan officiating. Interment in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton, Luzerne County.
Friends may call on Wed. from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg or on Thursday from 10-11 a. m. at the Church.
